Project Description
Our team provided true turn-key design and construct, with design completed by Metro Utilities.

The work on this high pressure network involved the installation of new high density polyethylene pipework (HDPE), and required open cut trenching in order to successfully complete the insertion and renewal. The project presented a number of environmental challenges, as we were working on rocky ground amongst trees on steep hillsides.

APA Management

Pass on my thanks and appreciation to the Diona and Metro Utilities teams involved in mains replacement work at Fulham Gardens

n accordance with APA procedures, and particularly the Concrete Cutting Prior to Excavation Flowchart process, the Metro Utilities crew made a decision to isolate gas supply prior to cutting concrete due to concerns over a possible shallow service within a Multi User site based on readings from the locator. In accordance with APA procedures, and particularly the Concrete Cutting Prior to Excavation Flowchart process, the Metro Utilities crew made a decision to isolate gas supply prior to cutting concrete due to concerns over a possible shallow service within a Multi User site based on readings from the locator.

Following cutting and removal of the concrete multiple instances of shallow gas services were found within the unit site and the concut blade did actually contact the isolated gas service at Unit 6. The proactive actions of the crew to isolate gas supply prior to cutting the concrete prevented this becoming a Level 3 asset strike and exposing the workers to a hazardous situation. It also reinforces our belief that every asset strike is preventable.
