project description
Our team provided true turn-key design and construct, with design completed by Metro Utilities.

This project is part of the AGN Gas Mains Renewal Program in Adelaide, which has seen the upgrade of the gas mains throughout the CBD. Insertion work and a pressure upgrade to 7 kpa was required, along with the replacement of the low pressure cast iron and steel gas mains in order to secure the gas network. Our work on Area N in Rundle Street was judged by APA to be the most difficult of all, owing to its busy central location and traffic management demands, yet despite the many challenges we were able to compete the work ahead of schedule and have received hugely positive feedback from the many stakeholders connected to the project.

APA Management

Pass on my thanks and appreciation to the Diona and Metro Utilities teams involved in mains replacement work at Fulham Gardens

In accordance with APA procedures, and particularly the Concrete Cutting Prior to Excavation Flowchart process, the Metro Utilities crew made a decision to isolate gas supply prior to cutting concrete due to concerns over a possible shallow service within a Multi User site based on readings from the locator. In accordance with APA procedures, and particularly the Concrete Cutting Prior to Excavation Flowchart process, the Metro Utilities crew made a decision to isolate gas supply prior to cutting concrete due to concerns over a possible shallow service within a Multi User site based on readings from the locator.

Following cutting and removal of the concrete multiple instances of shallow gas services were found within the unit site and the concut blade did actually contact the isolated gas service at Unit 6. The proactive actions of the crew to isolate gas supply prior to cutting the concrete prevented this becoming a Level 3 asset strike and exposing the workers to a hazardous situation. It also reinforces our belief that every asset strike is preventable.
